Lawyer, wife booked after maid found hanged

LAHORE: A lawyer and his wife were booked in a murder case on Sunday after their teenage maid was found hanged at their house in Ichhra.

Police said 15-year-old Mobeen Bibi of Okara was working at Chaudhry Manzoor advocate’s house for the last one-and-a-half months where she was found hanged to death.

The victim’s mother, Tasmia, said she recently visited Bibi whose employer complained that she was not working properly. She said she had asked her daughter to work swiftly and left the house.

“I received a call from the employer late on June 29 that her daughter was not feeling well,” Tasmia said and added that she and her husband reached the house in the morning where they were told that Mobeen Bibi had committed suicide.

She alleged that Chaudhry Manzoor and his wife had killed her daughter.

The police shifted the body to morgue for autopsy and registered a murder case against Manzoor and his wife.

Tasmia and her family also staged a protest outside the Lahore General Hospital against the killing and demanded action against the lawyer and his family.

Ichhra Station House Officer Hassan Raza said they did not find any marks of torture on the girl’s body. He said investigation was going on to know the exact cause of death.
