PCB cricket committee undecided on meeting date to review World Cup show

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) can’t find a date to decide the future of Pakistan cricket.

PCB’s cricket committee is due to meet in order to review the national team’s performance at the recently-concluded World Cup before making recommendations but Dawn has learnt that the committee members can’t agree on a date.

While the PCB wants the meeting to be held on July 29, the date isn’t confirmed since former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq is yet to confirm his availability for the meeting.

It is also being said that Misbah is showing little interest in remaining part of the committee which was formed by PCB chairman Ehsan Mani in December last year under the leadership of former Test opener Mohsin Khan.

Mohsin, however, left the post just a day before the PCB announced that cricket committee will review the performance of the national team with newly-appointed PCB managing director Wasim Khan being named as the committee head in his place.

Other committee members include former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram and four PCB officials as ex-office members including Mudassar Nazar (Director Academies), Zakir Khan (Director International Cricket), Haroon-ur-Rasheed (Director Domestic) and Urooj Mumtaz (women’s chief selector).

Pakistan’s exit from the World Cup was confirmed on July 7 following their last league match against Bangladesh and Mani has said that every sporting decision taken by the board will be on the recommendations of the cricket committee which will also take into consideration the national team’s performance over the last three years.

Mani, along with Wasim, is still in London for meetings of the International Cricket Council (ICC)
