A 14-year-old boy opened fire with a shotgun during “a house party gone bad” late Saturday, wounding his sister and killing her boyfriend, Harris County authorities say.
Harris County deputies were called about 11:40 p.m. to a house in the 24000 block of Pepperrell Place Street in Katy, about 25 miles west of Houston.
According to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, about 10 to 12 people were at a party at the home when the 14-year-old got into a fight with his sister’s 20-year-old boyfriend. The juvenile opened fire with a shotgun, wounding his 18-year-old sister and killing the boyfriend, Gonzalez said.
The sister was being treated at a hospital and was stable after undergoing surgery, sheriff’s Sgt. Eric Clegg said.
Update: preliminary info indicates abt 10 young adults & teens were gathered at the home when a disturbance began btwn a juvenile male & the male victim. Last night (abt 1140p), @HCSOTexas units responded to 24000 blk of Pepperrell Place Street. Two victims shot by one suspect, who used a shotgun. One victim was confirmed deceased at the scene and the other is stable at a hospital. Suspect was detained at the scene. #HouNews
“This was basically a house party gone bad,” Gonzalez said on Twitter.
The sheriff said the 14-year-old was detained at the home but was not in custody Sunday morning. Authorities will present the results of their investigation to a juvenile prosecutor, he said.
The parents of the juvenile and his sister, who own the home where the shooting took place, were on vacation in Cancún, authorities said.
