Frisco ISD reports more than 250 new COVID-19 cases since the start of November

There have been 256 new cases of COVID-19 since the start of November among students and staff across Frisco ISD.

On Oct. 31, the district’s online COVID-19 dashboard displayed positive cases for 99 staff members and 345 students. Twelve days later, the dashboard now displays 152 positive cases for staff members and 548 positive cases for students. The number of new cases accounts for nearly 37% of all reported cases in the district since the first day of school on Aug. 13.

Off-campus students have reported 59 positive cases, roughly 8% of the total, since Aug. 13. While in-person cases account for significantly more, it also includes virtual students who participate in, at least, a single on-campus activity such as athletics or band. Additionally, district officials said most in-person cases have been contracted outside of the school district.

“Our data shows there is not significant spread occurring on our campuses; cases are being contracted outside the school setting,” district officials wrote via email. “An ‘on-campus’ case simply means the positive individual participated in an on-campus activity during the infectious period. It does not mean the case was contracted on campus.”

Of the 2,069 students and staff required to quarantine since the first day of school, all but 27 have a known exposure with an individual outside of school, district officials said.

Trent Middle School has seen the highest number of in-person cases, with 11 students and three staff members having a positive test. Stafford Middle School has reported 10 in-person cases with seven students and three staff members testing positive.

Every other district campus with positive cases, 57 total, has seen fewer than 10 in-person cases. Fourteen have reported zero cases at all — including off-campus students.
