17-year-old fatally shot while sitting in car in Grand Prairie, Arlington police say

Arlington police are investigating the shooting death of a 17-year-old who was shot while in the backseat of a car in Grand Prairie Saturday night.

Arlington police officers responded to a shooting call just after 7 p.m. Saturday in the 6300 block of Brownlee Drive. When they arrived, officers found a 17-year-old man with a gunshot wound. The teen, who has not been identified, was taken to the hospital and later died.

Police believe that the 17-year-old was sitting in the backseat of a car with two other people when a firearm was discharged, striking the teen. Police also said that it is possible that the teen may have accidentally shot himself while handling the firearm in the car.

The other two passengers, who were not identified by police, are cooperating with investigators, police said. The case remains under investigation, police said.
