1 child killed, 5 hurt and left hospitalized when SUV hits go-kart in Kaufman County, officials say

One child was killed and five more were left hospitalized after an SUV collided with their go-kart Saturday afternoon in College Mound in Kaufman County, officials said.

About 12:30 p.m., College Mound firefighters were dispatched to a crash scene at the intersection of FM2727 and County Road 167. Upon arrival, they found that a go-kart carrying six children, all between the ages of 7-12, had been hit by an SUV.

According to a tweet from the College Mound Fire Department, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers said the go-kart was traveling west on College Road 167, while the SUV was headed south. One of the children was pronounced dead at the scene. The five others were taken to area hospitals — three were airlifted, two were driven.

The driver of the SUV was not injured, officials said.

As of Saturday night, officials had not yet released any information regarding the children’s identities or conditions.

DPS Sgt. Kyle Bradford said the investigation was ongoing and that no charges had been filed.

College Mound is an unincorporated community in Kaufman County and is about 40 miles east of Dallas.
