Rehabilitation work underway in Diplomatic Enclave

ISLAMABAD: Rehabilitation work in Diplomatic Enclave is in full swing and broken circular roads, especially near Chinese and United States embassies, have been carpeted.

Moreover, two new parks are being established in the area — one on 4th Road and the other at the entrance of the enclave.

Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Amer Ali Ahmed on Saturday visited the area and inspected the development work.

He directed the staff to improve the provision of sanitation, streetlights, environment, water supply and road maintenance.

“Diplomatic Enclave is our face all over the world and it is our responsibility to keep it clean and green,” Mr Ahmed said.

According to a statement, he directed to expedite the ongoing development, rehabilitation and repair works in the city and to further improve conditions around the markets.

“In order to rehabilitate the green character of the Diplomatic Enclave, the environment department should increase its services and plant flowers and fruit trees in greenbelts, roadsides, parks and open spaces. Weeds, plants and bushes in parks and other places should be cut down and rainwater drains cleaned,” he added.

Meanwhile, the chairman directed the officers to self-monitor the work related to their directorates across the city.

The field officers were instructed to remain present in the field to monitor the work.

Moreover, he also reviewed the ongoing work on overhead bridge at Faisal Avenue and directed the officers to expedite the construction and complete the bridge on time.

While talking to Dawn, Mr Ahmed said rehabilitation of the whole city had been started but especial focus was being given to Diplomatic Enclave.

“When I took charge, a number of roads in the enclave were broken. The service road near the Chinese embassy was in a miserable condition, so I directed for carpeting of roads,” he said.

Replying to a question, he said over the years a number of roads within Islamabad had been widened due to which it had become almost impossible for pedestrians to cross them.

“I have directed to build eight to 10 pedestrian bridges on different roads. The bridge at Faisal Avenue will be completed in a month. Similar bridges will be constructed on a number of other roads, including Srinagar Highway and Constitution Avenue,” he said.
