2 teens face murder charges in October shooting death of 41-year-old man

Two teenagers face murder charges in the October shooting death of a man in west Oak Cliff, police said.

Police said 17-year-old Edgar Lainez was arrested and a 16-year-old boy was taken into custody in connection with the Oct. 10 death of 41-year-old Isidro Galvan-Cerda.

The younger suspect, who wasn’t named because he is a juvenile, was taken into custody Tuesday, a Dallas police spokeswoman said in an email. Lainez was arrested Oct. 14, court records show.

The victim was found early the morning of Oct. 10 at an apartment complex in the 1200 block of Westmount Avenue, near Fort Worth Avenue. He had been shot multiple times and was lying in a doorway, police said at the time.

Police wrote in an arrest-warrant affidavit for Lainez that just before the shooting, the two suspects were looking for a gun that had been stolen a day earlier from someone who had been holding the weapon for them.

They went to the apartment where Galvan-Cerda was fatally shot believing someone else lived there, police wrote in the affidavit. Police didn’t provide details about whether the suspects knew the victim.

A witness reported seeing two males running from the scene holding guns before getting into a red Ford Mustang and driving away, according to the affidavit.
