2-alarm fire near Humble destroys at least 24 homes, displaces 27 people

More than two dozen people have been displaced Friday after a massive 2-alarm fire tore through an apartment complex in northeast Harris County, damaging at least 24 units, firefighters said.

The fire took place at the Haverstock Hills apartments at the 5600 block of Aldine Bender Road near Humble just before 1 a.m. Friday, responders said.

Eastex Firefighters responded to the fire at the 3-story apartment complex and worked with seven agencies to get the fire under control, said Laurie Christensen, Harris County Fire Marshal.

Caroline Dalcour said she barely had enough time to get out.

“Somebody was banging and banging and telling us to get out,” she said. “I just grabbed my purse with my bank card and money and ran out.”
