2 children drown in small pond near Conroe

The two children found dead Thursday night in a small pond near Conroe had drowned, officials said Friday.

Firefighters located the bodies of the children, ages 3 and 4, after noticing small footprints at the edge of the water, according to the Montgomery County Police Reporter

The children drowned in a pond on Wigginsville Road in Grangerland and a third child who could not swim was transported to the hospital in stable condition, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

The three children were first reported missing around 6 p.m. near Wigginsville Road and Dewberry, authorities said. During a search for them, authorities focused on the pond after locating one child who appeared wet, according to the MCPR.

A dive team searched the pond and recovered both bodies.
