2-year-old boy latest of dozens of children recently killed by gunfire in Houston area

A 2-year-old boy shot and killed while hanging out with his father and a family friend late Tuesday night became the latest Houston-area juvenile to die by gun violence.

Ivory “TJ” West was killed in a brazen, late-night home invasion around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at an apartment in the 2800 block of Trailing Vine while he, his father and his father’s friend were sitting in an open garage. Two men entered the garage and immediately opened fire, killing the toddler and severely injuring his father and the friend, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office

TJ is the 14th juvenile killed by gunfire in the Houston area so far in 2019, and the 34th to die since the beginning of 2018. He joins a laundry list of babies, toddlers and teens whose demise came from a firearm, joining 7-year-old Jazmine Barnes and 11-year-old Kamren Jones – both of whom were killed in cases of mistaken identity.
