Dallas County reports 1,698 new coronavirus cases, 22 deaths; Tarrant County adds 24 deaths

Dallas County reported 1,698 new coronavirus cases Monday, as well as 22 more deaths from COVID-19.

Sixteen of the latest victims were Dallas residents: a man in his 40s, a man in his 50s, four men in their 60s, four men and a woman in their 70s, three men and a woman in their 80s and a man in his 90s. One of the men in his 60s, the woman and one of the men in their 80s and the man in his 90s lived at long-term care facilities. The man in his 40s and one of the men in his 60s were found dead at their homes.

The other victims were a Coppell woman in her 90s who lived at a long-term care facility, a DeSoto woman in her 80s, a Garland man in his 80s, an Irving woman in her 50s, a Mesquite woman in her 70s and a Richardson man in his 70s who lived at a long-term care facility.

The Richardson man and the Dallas man in his 60s found dead at home did not have underlying health conditions that would have put them at higher risk of COVID-19 complications, officials said.

County Judge Clay Jenkins said in a written statement that although last week was the county’s deadliest of the pandemic, some key metrics are decreasing, including the average number of daily cases and the testing positivity rate at county hospitals.

“These are encouraging trends, and I hope these numbers continue to go down,” Jenkins said.

Of the new cases, 1,476 were confirmed and 222 were probable.

The newly reported cases bring the county’s total to 248,518, including 219,515 confirmed cases and 29,003 probable cases. The death toll stands at 2,030.

Health officials use hospitalizations, intensive care admissions and emergency room visits as key metrics to track the real-time impact of COVID-19 in the county. Because of a lag in weekend reporting, this data will next be available Tuesday.

According to the state’s data, 107,855 people in Dallas County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 19,490 are fully vaccinated.

Texas

Across the state, 6,319 more cases were reported Monday, including 5,897 new cases and 422 older cases that were recently reported by labs.

The state also reported 72 COVID-19 deaths, raising its toll to 34,394.

Of the new cases, 5,205 were confirmed and 692 were probable. Of the older cases, 319 were confirmed and 103 were probable.

The newly reported cases bring the state’s total to 2,246,745, including 1,965,585 confirmed cases and 281,160 probable cases.

There are 12,785 COVID-19 patients in Texas hospitals, including 3,569 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. On Sunday, 21.8% of patients in the hospital region covering the Dallas-Fort Worth area were COVID-19 patients — above the 15% threshold the state has used to define high hospitalizations.

The seven-day average positivity rate statewide for molecular tests, based on the date of test specimen collection, was 14.8% as of Sunday. For antigen tests, the positivity rate for the same period was 9.5%. A molecular test is considered more accurate and is sometimes also called a PCR test; an antigen test is also called a rapid test. Gov. Greg Abbott has said a positivity rate above 10% is cause for concern.

According to the state’s data, 1,488,783 people in Texas have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 265,786 are fully vaccinated.

Tarrant County

Tarrant County reported 1,260 coronavirus cases and 24 deaths Monday.

Ten of the latest victims were Arlington residents: two men and a woman in their 50s, a woman in her 60s, a man in his 70s, a man and two women in their 80s and a man and a woman older than 90. Six more lived in North Richland Hills: two men in their 60s, two men and a woman in their 70s and a woman older than 90.

The other victims were three Fort Worth men, in their 50s, 60s, and 70s; three Watauga residents, a man and two women older than 90; a Haltom City man in his 80s; and a Hurst man in his 60s.

All but two had underlying high-risk health conditions, officials said.

Of the new cases, 1,061 were confirmed and 199 were probable.

The newly reported cases bring the county’s total to 208,325, including 180,135 confirmed cases and 28,190 probable cases. The death toll stands at 2,072.

According to the county, 1,287 people are hospitalized with the virus as of Sunday.

According to the state’s data, 85,716 people in Tarrant County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 8,383 are fully vaccinated.

Collin County

The state added 835 coronavirus cases and two deaths to Collin County’s totals Monday.

No details about the latest victims were available.

Of the new cases, 775 were confirmed and 60 were probable.

The newly reported cases bring the county’s total to 68,943, including 59,538 confirmed cases and 9,405 probable cases. The death toll stands at 533.

According to the county, 500 people are hospitalized with the virus.

According to the state’s data, 41,035 people in Collin County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 7,599 are fully vaccinated.

Denton County

Denton County reported 629 coronavirus cases and 11 deaths Monday.

Five of the latest victims were residents of Prestonwood Court in Plano: a woman in her 70s, a man older than 80 and three women older than 80. Four victims were Denton residents: two men older than 80, one of whom lived at Anthology of Denton, and two women older than 80 who lived at Good Samaritan Society Denton Village.

The other victims were a Flower Mound man in his 60s and a Lewisville man older than 80 who was a resident of Beehive Assisted Living.

The newly reported cases bring the county’s total to 50,439, including 30,347 confirmed cases and 10,092 probable cases. The death toll stands at 294.

According to the county, 170 people are hospitalized with the virus.

According to the state’s data, 23,013 people in Denton County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 4,180 are fully vaccinated.

Other counties

The Texas Department of State Health Services has taken over reporting for these other North Texas counties. In some counties, new data may not be reported every day.

The latest numbers are:

• Rockwall County: 8,789 cases (7,332 confirmed and 1,457 probable), 86 deaths.
• Kaufman County: 12,327 cases (10,718 confirmed and 1,609 probable), 171 deaths.
• Ellis County: 17,597 cases (15,497 confirmed and 2,100 probable), 219 deaths.
• Johnson County: 15,615 cases (13,860 confirmed and 1,755 probable), 237 deaths.
