Suspect arrested in fatal shooting of Lancaster High senior, Wyoming football recruit Tony Evans Jr.

An 18-year-old has been arrested on a murder charge in connection with the shooting of Tony Evans Jr., a Lancaster High senior and Wyoming football recruit, Dallas police say.

Keyshawn Evanta Harris was booked into the Dallas County jail about 10:30 a.m. Thursday, and his bail was set at $500,000. It was unclear whether he had an attorney.

Evans and another person were shot early Sunday at a Hawthorn Suites hotel at 7900 Brookriver Drive in the Stemmons Corridor.

Police have not released details about how they identified Harris as a suspect or what led to the shooting. Witnesses said it happened during a party in the hotel room.

Both victims were taken to a hospital, where Evans was pronounced dead. The other victim, whom police have not publicly identified, was reported to be in stable condition.

Evans was a 17-year-old Lancaster native who had signed a national letter of intent to play football at the University of Wyoming. His death stirred nationwide prayers and pleas to end gun violence from community members, state representatives, professional athletes and coaches.

Wyoming’s football coach, Craig Bohl, has said he will travel to Dallas to attend Evans’ funeral.
