Girl in viral posts spread by conspiracy theorists has been abducted by father, authorities say

A Texas girl seen in viral videos last year that fueled rumors of abuse has been abducted by her father, authorities say.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said in a bulletin that the 10-year-old girl and her 42-year-old noncustodial father were last seen July 12 in Seguin, about 30 miles east of San Antonio.

Authorities believe they may be in an off-white 2010 Ford Edge SUV or a gray van with blacked-out windows, a National Rifle Association sticker and a black roof. They could be headed to Arizona, Colorado, Utah, Argentina or Mexico, DPS said.

Frisco police were inundated with calls and emails about the girl last year, in part due to social-media posts spread by the Qanon movement. They said then that information and speculation being shared online were “patently false” and that the child — who was at the center of a custody dispute — was safe.

is not identifying the girl because the video alleges she is a victim of abuse, even though police say those allegations are not true.
