COVID-19 hospitalizations in Arlington leaped 616% since July

The number of Arlington residents hospitalized for COVID-19 jumped 616% since July, according to the city’s dashboard.

In the past two weeks, the city has recorded 11 deaths from COVID-19. Since the pandemic began, it has reported 777 total deaths from the virus.

As of Sept. 16, 179 people were hospitalized with the virus, up from 25 since July.

In Tarrant County, a total of 1,179 people were hospitalized with the virus, according to the county’s health department.

Hospitalizations may be beginning to plateau in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, according to the DFW Hospital Council. The 19-county area that includes Dallas-Fort Worth has seen about 3,500 patients hospitalized daily with COVID-19, and as case numbers drop, hospitalizations for the disease are expected to fall, council CEO and president Steve Love said Tuesday.

Arlington has recorded 54,352 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, according to the Tarrant County Public Health Department. Of those, 48,853 have recovered.

The numbers bring the county’s case total to 329,527, including 274,252 confirmed and 55,275 probable. The death toll is 4,047.

According to the state, 1,136,997 people in Tarrant County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 986,659 — 56.7% of the county’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.
