2-year-old dies after crash that seriously injured 3 others in Arlington, authorities say

A 2-year-old girl died Thursday from injuries she suffered in a crash that seriously injured three other people in Arlington this week. Police arrested a driver who they said caused the wreck by driving while intoxicated.

The crash happened Tuesday about 8:20 p.m. on Interstate 20 near the Highway 360 interchange, Arlington police said. A 25-year-old man who police said was intoxicated was driving erratically when he struck a pickup, causing the pickup to veer off the road and roll over a guardrail before landing on its side, police said.

A 26-year-old man, a 22-year-old woman, a 4-year-old girl and the 2-year old girl were all in the pickup and were taken to a hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The 2-year-old, identified as Milania Pierite, was pronounced dead late Thursday.

Tyler Hampton, the driver of the other car, was not seriously injured.

Hampton was arrested on three counts of intoxication assault with serious bodily injury. Authorities said they were working to update the charges to include one count of intoxication manslaughter.

He was booked into the Arlington City jail. It was unclear whether he had an attorney.
