43-year-old man fatally shot in east Oak Cliff parking lot, Dallas police say

A 43-year-old man died after he was shot in the parking lot of an east Oak Cliff grocery store late Saturday, police said.

Police responded to a call about the shooting at Sam’s Grocery in the 700 block of Ann Arbor Avenue about midnight and found Thomas Dewayne Scott with a gunshot wound.

Scott was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Detectives said Scott had left his vehicle running and unlocked in the parking lot when someone got in the car and tried to drive away.

When Scott tried to stop the car, the person got out of the vehicle and shot him, police said. Police did not say whether Scott was inside or outside of the car when he was shot.

No further details were available, and no arrests have been made, police said.
