ISLAMABAD: A Senate panel has taken serious notice of a tragic incident in Karachi, involving the death of a young man after his head got stuck in an ‘automatic’ door at the entrance to a five-star hotel.
Senate Standing Committee on Interior chairman Rehman Malik directed the Sindh inspector general police and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to investigate how a substandard and technically faulty automatic door was installed at the main entrance to the hotel, and sought a report on the matter.
The committee inquired why the door’s sensor was not working properly and who was responsible for its regular check-up and maintenance.
The head of 28-year-old Sirajuddin’s got stuck in the automatic door at the entrance to Mövenpick Hotel when he tried to pass through it.
The young man received critical injuries on his head and face. The deceased belonged to Balochistan’s Pishin district and used to supply ice to the five-star hotel.
Senator Malik also sought a detailed report from the ministry of interior and the Islamabad police IG about the increase in the incidence of street crime, car and bikes theft and burglaries in the federal capital. He said that it was highly alarming that such crimes were taking place in the capital of the country.
He said complaints being received by the committee and media reports both suggested that street crimes were on the rise in Islamabad. He said that the police and district administration should take steps to make the federal capital crime free.
