Man shot and killed behind gas station near Eastex Freeway, Beltway 8

Sheriff’s deputies are searching for a suspect who they say fatally shot a man behind a gas station in north Harris County early Saturday morning.

Officials responded shortly before 4 a.m. to reports of a man lying in a gas station parking lot off the Eastex Freeway near Aldine Bender Road, several miles south of Humble.

The victim appeared to have been shot after meeting up with a suspect behind the gas store near a dumpster, homicide unit Lt. Robert Minchew told reporters. The two men could have met up to perform a drug transaction, Minchew said.

The 25-year-old victim was transported to Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital in Humble, Minchew said, where he was later pronounced dead. Officials with the sheriff’s office are interviewing two or three witnesses and reviewing the gas station’s surveillance footage, according to Minchew.

The suspect took off toward Aldine Bender road and is not in custody, Minchew added. Officials did not immediately know if the victim and suspect knew each other before the altercation took place.
