The number of confirmed measles cases in the United States has climbed to 880 since the start of 2019, including 41 new infections during the previous week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said in a report on Monday
“This is an increase of 41 cases from the previous week.”
The CDC pointed out that the number of measles cases reported this year was the highest since 1994.
The majority of people who got measles were not vaccinated, with many cases traced to travelers who bring the disease into the United States, the report said.
The CDC noted that the New York City boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens have been most affected by the ongoing outbreak with 498 confirmed cases as of May 13.
