MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik -) Russian GLONASS-M navigation satellite was launched on Monday from the Russian Plesetsk Cosmodrome atop a Soyuz-2.1b carrier rocket, the Russian Defense Ministry told reporters.

“On Monday, May 27, at 9.23 a.m. Moscow time [06:23 GMT], the operational crew of the [Russian] Aerospace Forces’ Space Forces launched successfully a Soyuz-2.1b middle-class carrier rocket with a GLONASS-M navigation satellite from the fourth launcher of the State Test Cosmodrome Plesetsk (Arkhangelsk Oblast),” the Russian Defense Ministry said.

All the prelaunch operations, as well as the launch itself, were carried out in a normal mode.

This was the first launch of a Soyuz-2 carrier from Plesetsk in 2019.

The GLONASS constellation comprises 26 satellites, including 24 operational devices. The satellites circle the Earth at an altitude of around 11,000 miles and ensure complete coverage of the Earth and global signal availability. The system provides 24-hour navigation services, including high accurate location information and precise time to users.
