WHO Experts To Help Pakistan Control HIV’s Outbreak: UN

A team of experts from the World Health Organization (WHO) has arrived in Pakistan to support the country’s response to the outbreak of HIV infections in Larkana, Sindh, a UN spokesman said Wednesday

UNITED NATIONS, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News –  ) :A team of experts from the World Health Organization (WHO) has arrived in Pakistan to support the country’s response to the outbreak of HIV infections in Larkana, Sindh, a UN spokesman said Wednesday.

More than 600 people have been tested positive for HIV, nearly than half of them being children under the age of five since the outbreak of the disease in April 22.

“Prior to this outbreak, there were just over 1,200 children diagnosed with HIV and receiving antiretroviral treatment in the whole of Pakistan,” Deputy Spokesman Farhan Haq told the regular noon briefing at UN Headquarters in New York.

“The WHO-led team will try to ascertain the source of the outbreak and control it, as well as provide its expertise in the areas of HIV testing, pediatric HIV treatment and family counseling,”
