Body of Kemah Police Chief Chris Reed recovered

Officials recovered the body of Kemah Police Chief Chris Reed at 7:54 a.m., ending a two-day search, said U.S. Coast Guard.

More than a dozen local, state and federal agencies searched for the Kemah police chief over the weekend after a wave from a large vessel threw him overboard in Galveston Bay Friday afternoon. Reed, 50, had been boating with his wife and was not wearing a life jacket

After roughly 19 agencies and 25 volunteer vessels searched at least 650 square nautical miles, Reed’s body was found near where he entered the water. Galveston County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit recovered the Kemah police chief a mile and a half north of the Texas City Dike, west of buoy 32 in the Houston Ship Channel.

Upon hearing the news, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez took to Twitter to express his condolences. “(Our) thoughts and prayers remain with the family, friends, and entire Kemah community,” he wrote. “May he Rest In Peace.”
