Beta’s outer rain bands expected to start rolling in Sunday

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The first non-coastal impacts of Beta will be felt today as the outer bands of the storm move through SE Texas.

Our entire coast is under a Tropical Storm Warning and Storm Surge Warning, meaning tropical storm conditions and storm surge could begin within 36 hours. The Tropical Storm Warning has been extended farther inland and now includes Houston. Most of Southeast Texas is also included in a Flash Flood Watch through Tuesday evening. Our Hurricane Watch has been dropped, meaning that hurricane force winds are unlikely with this storm.

Tropical Storm Beta’s rain bands will be steadily pushing onshore during the day. Rain could start in the mid to late morning, and continue through the day. Tide levels will also continue rising along the Texas coast. Depending on the track, we could be dealing with rounds of rain and unusually high tides for several days next week. Because of the weak steering currents, the track and impact forecasts will be challenging, so stay aware and informed in the days ahead as we try to get a better handle on what Beta will do. Right now, Beta is tracking west-northwest towards the TX coast through Monday and then will take a turn northeast. Isolated tornadoes will also be possible as we head into Sunday and Monday so make sure you are staying weather aware.
