Border agents in Texas find $170,000 stashed inside pickup’s tailgate

Border agents discovered more than $170,000 hidden inside the tailgate of a pickup truck Saturday in Presidio.

Officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection stopped a 48-year-old U.S. citizen driving a pickup just before 1 p.m. Saturday. The driver was accompanied by a 23-year-old Mexican citizen.

Agents inspected the vehicle and discovered several bundles of cash wrapped in black tape hidden within the tailgate of the truck. The money totaled $170,030.

CBP officers seized the money and vehicle and turned the driver and passenger to special agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The identities of the driver and passenger were not released.
