Community gets sneak peek at Tomball’s new $1.5M fire truck

Scheduled to be in service by the end of September, Tomball Fire Department’s new custom-built fire truck is meant to be not only a replacement, but an improvement over the apparatus that was totaled in a rollover wreck last year.

Community members got a sneak peek of the vehicle during the Greater Tomball Area Chamber of Commerce Mobility and Transportation Committee meeting Sept. 10 at Tomball Fire Station 1.

Measuring over 42 feet in length, the apparatus is a custom-made Pierce Velocity cab that cost just under $1.5 million, according to Tomball Fire Marshal Joe Sykora.

“It was literally designed by firefighters for firefighters,” Sykora said. “We’re able to custom design these rigs however we want to, to best suit our needs.”

The new fire truck serves as a sort of multifaceted firefighting toolbox, he explained, from its 300-gallon water tank and hoses, to forcible entry tools and equipment for a range of rescue situations — including a ladder that reaches a height of 107 feet
