Deer Park motorists should prepare for heavier traffic

The city of Deer Park is alerting motorists to expect heavier traffic beginning Tuesday, July 23 and continuing through the weekend of July 27-28 because of the Pony International Girls Softball World Series and the Pony South Zone Bronco Baseball Tournament.

From July 23-27, the series will include events at Abshier Stadium, 710 W San Augustine St.; the Girls Softball Complex, 301 West X St.; and the Adult Softball Complex, 2700 E. Pasadena Blvd. As the tournament continues, games will be held solely at the Girls Softball Complex.

From July 25-28, the Pony South Zone Bronco Baseball Tournament will be at the Minchen Athletic Complex,300 W. 13th St. Those attending this tournament should be aware that parking could be limited throughout the complex including at the Jimmy Burke Activity Center and the Municipal Court and Theater Building.

A high volume of vehicles and visitors is expected, particularly on Wednesday, July 24 and Thursday, July 25.

“As in any situation involving a high volume of traffic, Deer Park motorists are encourage to avoid the areas affected if possible, be patient with our visitors and enjoy some of the games if possible,” Deer Park Police Chief Greg Grigg said in a press release. “In particular, the softball tournament will bring approximately 50 teams, and the baseball tournament will bring about 40 teams to the Deer Park area, many of whom will be navigating our city for the first time.”
