Driver returned to site of deadly hit-and-run in The Heights

A woman struck and killed two pedestrians, including one in a wheelchair, in the Heights Saturday.

Police were called to the corner of North Shepherd Drive and West 10th Street at around 9:30 p.m. A man and woman were both taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.

The female driver had fled the scene and driven home, where a relative apparently urged her to return.

“She came back a short time later and turned herself in,” Houston Police Sgt. John Benavidez said.

He said there was no signs that the driver was intoxicated and the District Attorney’s Office was weighing whether or not to charge her for failing to stop and render aid.

No more details about the two victims were immediately available.
