ISLAMABAD: The accountability court of Islamabad on Monday extended the physical remand of Pakistan Peoples Party leader Faryal Talpur in the fake bank accounts case for seven days and adjourned the proceedings till Aug 19.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) produced former president Asif Ali Zardari and Ms Talpur before the accountability judge in the fake accounts case.
The NAB’s prosecution sought physical remand of Ms Talpur for 14 days.
Accountability Judge Mohammad Bashir, however, extended the remand for seven days and directed the prosecution to produce her before the court after the expiry of the remand.
The two approvers in the case — Noreen Sultan and Kiran Aman — filed applications seeking exemption from personal appearance. They said they could not afford travelling to Islamabad on every date of proceedings.
Judge Bashir inquired about the status of the applications filed by the approvers before the NAB chairman. The prosecution said the applications were still pending.
Mr Zardari produced some newspaper clippings in which Special Assistance to the Prime Minister on Accountability Mirza Shahzad Akbar claimed that the former president owned 26 properties. He requested the court to proceed against Mr Akbar.
The judge, however, left it for the defence counsel, saying that the lawyer for Mr Zardari might issue a legal notice to Mr Akbar.
