Friendswood police: Fence too tall for man facing multiple charges

A recent early morning traffic stop in the 1700 block of Keystone Drive led to two narcotics arrests and the discovery of a firearm that Friendswood police believe one of the suspects left in a backyard while trying to jump over a fence.

The driver, Edwin Gilbert Evans IV, 30, of Jamaica Beach had no identification and tried to run away and jump a fence on Aug. 10 when a second police unit arrived at about 2:30 a.m. He was taken into custody, police said.

Evans told police he had a parole violation warrant and that he was found in possession of two syringes containing methamphetamine, according to the report. A vehicle search yielded Adderall and methamphetamine, according to police.

The suspect was charged with possession of a controlled substance and evading arrest. Bond was set at $61,500 but denied for the parole violation warrant.

Evans received an additional charge — unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon — after a gun was found at 9:15 a.m. near the fence he had tried to jump, police said. Bond on that charge was set at $100,000.
