A Garland officer shot a man brandishing a machete Monday afternoon after the man charged at police, authorities said.
Police had been called to the 1400 block of South Third Street, near Chandler Drive, about 3:30 p.m. after a man was reported to be waving a machete and arguing with people.
Officers found the man, identified as 38-year-old Scott Norris, outside a home. While still holding the machete, he began yelling angrily at officers while they told him to drop the weapon, police said.
He then charged at the officers, and one officer shot him, police said.
Norris was treated at a hospital and then taken to the Garland jail. He was being held on a count of aggravated assault on a public servant.
The officer who shot him, who has been on the force eight years, will be placed on routine administrative leave.
