Genevieve Collins, Colin Allred lead in fundraising in critical congressional race

Genevieve Collins and Colin Allred have hauled in the most cash in the much-anticipated race for Congressional District 32.

Allred, the incumbent Democrat, raised $663,000 during the fourth quarter of last year. He has taken in $2.5 million for the campaign and has $1.9 million cash on hand, a campaign official said Monday. Allred is running unopposed in the Democratic primary.

Collins, the frontrunner in the March 3 GOP primary, raised $430,000 in the final fundraising quarter of 2019. Her campaign has garnered over $910,000 since it launched about five months ago. She has $780,000 in the bank, according to her campaign.

“Since entering this race five months ago, I am filled with gratitude by the support I have received from the hardworking people of the 32nd district,” Collins said Monday in a news release. “These fundraising totals ensure that we will have the resources to spread our message of small government and lower taxes far and wide across the district. I look forward to continuing my efforts toward flipping the 32nd district and bringing our Texas values to Congress.”

Collins has several rivals in the Republican primary. Former Navy Seal Floyd McLendon raised $238,000 in the fourth quarter. He’s raised $284,000 for the entire campaign and has more than $100,000 in the bank.

“I am indebted to so many supporters who have invested in my campaign to stop the Democratic socialists, defend the America First agenda, and fight back against the impeachment overreach,” McLendon said. “I am the one conservative, grassroots candidate who will fight for President Trump’s agenda, defend our sovereign border, and protect faith, family and freedom.”
