Grand jury will decide charges against driver who fled scene of double fatal accident

A Harris County grand jury will determine if a driver accused of killing two pedestrians before speeding off will be charged, police say.

The driver sped off without checking on the two pedestrians, Houston Police Department Sgt. John Benavidez said. The woman drove to her home, where a family member convinced her to return to the scene, according to earlier reports.

She did not show signs of intoxication, police said. She could face felony charges of failure to stop and render aid.

North Shepherd Drive near West 10th Street around 9:30 p.m. Saturday when she struck two people, a 64-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, according to the Houston Police Department.

Both were rushed to area hospitals, where they died, police said.
