Harris County murder suspect arrested on robbery charge in connection with carjacking

One person was injured in a shooting involving a Mesquite police officer after a car chase ended in Dallas Saturday afternoon, police say.

The shooting happened at about 3:48 p.m. Saturday in the 6000 block of Lovett Avenue, according to the Dallas Police Department.

Police said Mesquite police were chasing a reported stolen vehicle, when the driver crossed into Dallas city limits. The driver then fled the vehicle on foot and officers chased them into the backyard of a residence on Lovett Avenue.

Officers saw the driver with a handgun and at least one Mesquite officer fired a shot, according to Dallas police

The driver was struck and and transported to Baylor University Medical Center in stable condition, police said.

No officers were injured and police recovered a gun.

Dallas police officers did not fire their guns.
