Houston man’s body found at car wash after mystery man knocks on family’s door

An early morning knock at family’s home in northeast Harris County started a chain of events that led to the discovery of their relative’s bloodied body at a nearby car wash.

Jaime Diaz’s brother woke up around 6 a.m. Wednesday to someone pounding on their door, telling them that they ought to swing by the El Guero car wash in the 4000 block of Aldine Mail Route Road, according to Harris County Sheriff’s Office homicide investigator Mario Quintanilla. The brother rushed over to the small business and found Diaz dead in the back of an SUV.

Jesus Diaz, the victim’s son, identified his father. Detectives did not release the victim’s identity.

“There’s definitely trauma,” Quintanilla said of Diaz’s body, which appeared to be lying on its right side in the cargo space of the SUV.

Diaz appeared to have been shot, although his official cause of death will be determined during an autopsy by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

“It bothers me that I don’t know who did it,” Jesus Diaz said. “It bothers me that [they would] leave his body here, when they could have called for an ambulance or somebody to come help him. Why would they just leave him here like he’s nothing?”

Quintanilla told reporters that several people are known to frequent the car wash location at night, although it was not clear if any of them were involved in Diaz’s death.

Diaz would frequently leave for extended periods of time and then turn-up again out of the blue, officials said. Jesus Diaz said he thought his father was in Mexico on the morning he was discovered.

As for the man who knocked on the victim’s brother’s door, Quintanilla said detectives certainly want to speak with him and anyone else who might know about Diaz’s death.

Anyone with information is urged to call Houston Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
