Houston police arrest 56 on felony DWI charges in June

A man charged in a fatal crash last month was among 56 people facing felony-level DWI charges in June, according Houston Police Department records.

Bayron Cruz is accused of killing Guadalupe Garza Sauceda on June 30 after crashing into her car in 1300 block of W. 34th Street just after midnight

Cruz was driving at a “speed greater than reasonable and prudent” when he struck Sauceda’s vehicle, police said.

Other felony DWI suspects in June were charged with their third DWI or driving while intoxicated with a child in the vehicle.

Driving while intoxicated in Texas is typically a misdemeanor on the first two offenses. Drivers charged with a third DWI offense can face third-degree felony penalties up to $10,000 in fines, license suspensions and a possible sentence between two to 10 years in prison.

While most of the felony cases in June were the result of a third DWI charge, 16 people were arrested on a charge of DWI with a child passenger. See mugshots of the accused as well as their charges above.
