HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Scattered showers and storms will be possible this morning as a disturbance rolls towards the area. Some storms could become strong to even severe. The highest chance of severe weather will be north of our viewing area but a few severe storms cannot be ruled out. Scattered rain is expected to continue into the afternoon as a storm complex moves in from the west. We aren’t expecting a total washout today, but a backup plan may need to be made for any outdoor plans.
There’s a good chance many of us will be able to pull off outdoor plans Saturday, especially near the coast (you’ll just have to deal with sea fog). Washout potential increases Sunday.
A higher chance of rain comes Sunday as a strong disturbance rolls through. This will likely produce widespread storms off and on through the day, possibly flooding Houston area streets.
While we do not anticipate it will rain the entire weekend, it would be wise to have a “plan B” in mind for any outdoor activities just in case your plans miss one of the breaks between the storms.
Most areas will receive 1-3″ of rain, with isolated areas getting between 4-6″. Street flooding will be the most likely impact. While bayous, creeks, and rivers may rise, they are currently expected to stay within their banks. Large hail, damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph and isolated tornadoes are also possible, especially on Saturday.
