Houston woman accused of throwing an apparently starving puppy onto the side of an Atascocita road

An animal cruelty investigation has been launched after police say a Houston woman allegedly threw an apparently malnourished puppy out of her vehicle window and onto a road in the Atascocita area Sunday and then fled the scene.

Princess Franklin was charged with cruelty and abandonment to a non-livestock animal, according to a release from Harris County Constable Precinct 4. Police said a person witnessed Franklin allegedly “throw” an apparently malnourished puppy out of her vehicle window and flee the scene.

The witness was able to provide police with a description of Franklin’s vehicle before she allegedly fled the scene. Police later found her vehicle in the 11200 block of Will Clayton Parkway in the Atascocita area and she was subsequently taken into custody.Franklin told police the puppy belonged to a roommate who she no longer had contact with. After she was unable to find a new home for the dog, she told police she then decided to leave the animal on the side of the road, according to the release

The puppy was found a day after the incident in the 18400 block of the Continental Parkway and is now under the care of Harris County Animal Control. Additional charges could be filed, pending an investigation.

Franklin’s bond was set at $100.
