HPD arrests dozens on felony DWI charges in May

During the month of May, Houston police arrested 31 drivers on felony alcohol charges.

Some were charged with driving while intoxicated with a child in the vehicle and many were charged with their third DWI.

Driving while intoxicated in Texas is typically a misdemeanor on the first two offenses.

Drivers charged with a third DWI offense can face up to $10,000 in fines, have their license suspended and can face between two to 10 years in prison.

While most of the felony cases in March were the result of a third DWI charge, seven people were arrested on a charge of DWI with a child passenger.
