Man charged in boat crash that killed three people, injured others in Chambers County

A man has been charged in connection with a boat crash Sunday in Chambers County that left three people dead, authorities said.

Jacob Vernon Breaux, 23, of Baytown, was arrested on three counts of intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle, and two counts of intoxication assault with a vehicle, according to the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office. He is currently in jail with bond amounts totaling $200,000

Two people were pronounced dead on the scene after a ski boat and a bass fishing vessel collided around 7:30 p.m. in the Old and Lost River near Interstate 10, officials said. They have been identified as Laura Kay Grant, 48, of Mont Belvieu, and William Robert Bowles, 36, of Baytown.

A third person, Zachary Jackson Miles, 29, of Beach City, later died from his wounds at Hermann Memorial Hospital. A GoFundMe page for Miles described him as an avid fisherman who managed a Facebook page used to share tips on Houston area fishing holes.

Another fundraising page for Bowles said he was a father with a son.

The crash involved 11 people, including five people on the ski boat and six people on the bass fishing boat, authorities said.

The three victims who died were all aboard the bass fishing boat, authorities said. Four additional people on the bass fishing boat were injured, including two people who remained hospitalized in critical condition as of Monday morning, authorities said.

One person from the ski boat was treated at an area hospital and released.

The sheriff’s office, as well as Texas Game Wardens, are continuing their investigation.
