Man charged in death of 68-year-old in South Dallas, second suspect at large

 

A man has been charged with capital murder in the death of a 68-year-old man who died several days after a physical altercation in South Dallas earlier this month.

Curtis Blackwell, 48, at left, was charged with capital murder in the death of 68-year-old Clark Thomas, who died July 17 after a violent physical altercation in South Dallas. Martell Lamar Edwards, right, remains at large.

Police say Curtis Blackwell, 48, admitted his role in the crime under interrogation by detectives Friday. He is being held in Dallas County Jail with bond set at $500,000.

A second suspect, Martell Lamar Edwards, remains at large.

The incident took place on the evening of July 7. Police had responded to a disturbance call in the 5000 block of Military Parkway, where they found the victim, Clark Thomas, suffering from head trauma.

Thomas was hospitalized and died of his injuries on July 17.
