Man dies after crashing truck head-on into tree in east Houston

A man died Friday morning after crashing his pickup truck into a tree in east Houston.

The man, 62, was southbound in the 2200 block of Waco Street when he veered off the road and into the center grassy median dividing the northbound and southbound lanes, police said. He slammed into a tree, which wrapped the front end of the truck around the trunk

Paramedics were performing CPR on the man as they loaded him onto an ambulance, but he was pronounced dead after being rushed to a nearby hospital.

The cause of the crash is unclear.
