Man fatally shot after standoff with police in League City

A man was fatally shot Friday evening after threatening to shoot his mother and later firing four rounds out the front door of a residence in League City, police said.

League City police responded shortly before 9:30 p.m. to a call from a woman who said her 39-year-old son had threatened her with a gun before threatening to kill himself, according to Metro Video.

The man, identified by League City police as Jeffrey Bodie, refused to come out of the house near the intersection of Coreopsis Court and Peach Mill Lane. Bodie was believed to be intoxicated, officials said.

While speaking on the phone with police, Bodie fired several rounds through the front door, believing police were standing outside, officials said. Nobody was hit by the gunfire, according to Metro Video.

SWAT responders were then called. According to League City police, Bodie came outside at 10:58 p.m. holding a rifle with a high-capacity ammunition drum inserted into the magazine well.

SWAT officers told Bodie to drop the rifle, but he instead pointed it at the officers, League City police said. SWAT officers shot and killed Bodie before he could fire the weapon, officials said.
