Man killed in South Houston shooting

Houston police are investigating a fatal shooting that left one man dead and lying in the road near the Brookhaven neighborhood Friday night.

Houston police and firefighters responded to reports of a shooting at 10 p.m. Friday night on the 3500 block of Hondo Street near Lawler Street in south Houston.

Witnesses reported hearing four to five gun shots before calling police, said Victor Senties, public information officer for the Houston Police Department.

Police found a black male in his late 20s lying in the middle of the road with a gunshot wound to his head, authorities said. The victim died at the scene.

There is very little information about the victim or a possible suspect at this time. Police are checking cameras in the area and anyone who was around the area is asked to contact the Houston Police Homicide Department. Sgt Kenneth Daignault is handling the case.
