Man walked into police headquarters and admitted to killing his dad at east Oak Cliff home, authorities say

A Dallas man turned himself in to authorities Friday and admitted to killing his father at the east Oak Cliff home the two of them shared, police say.

Garry Wayne Bynum, 45, was arrested on a murder charge. His bail had not been set Friday night.

Officers were called to a home in the the 1200 block of Strickland Street, near South Denley Drive, around 6:45 a.m. Friday. Inside, they found Bynum’s father, 65-year-old Gary Louis Kelly, dead from “homicidal violence.”

Police said they later determined that Bynum had killed Kelly.

Bynum surrendered to authorities at police headquarters Friday afternoon and admitted during an interview that he had killed his father, police said. He was booked into the Dallas County jail.

No further information was available.

Bynum has previously been convicted in Dallas County on charges of drug possession, theft and failure to identify, court records show.
