Man’s body found in vehicle days after crash heard

A man’s decomposing body was found inside a crashed vehicle in the woods – two days after neighbors said they heard a crash in the area.

Harris County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Dashana Cheek-McNeal said deputies arrived at the 10200 block of Windfern Road in northwest Houston around 8 p.m. Sunday after a man reported finding a crashed vehicle with a body inside it deep in the woods

A preliminary investigation revealed that the body had been inside the older model green Lexus for “a long time,” Cheek-McNeal said. The victim was identified by the sheriff’s office as Reginald Kercheval.

Neighbors told investigators they heard a crash Friday morning around 3 a.m., but no vehicle was ever found, she said.

According to investigators, the driver failed to drive in a single lane when approaching a curve and veered off the road and into a signpost and guardrail, according to a Harris County Sheriff’s Office news release.
