A mother and her 16-year-old son are recovering after a gunman shot them at a birthday party in northwest Houston early Sunday morning, Houston police said.

The mother and son were at the Wingate Hotel near FM 1960 and Mills Road Saturday night into the morning.

Around 2:30 a.m., the gunman pulled out a gun during a dispute, HPD Detective Ferrell said. The mother tried to intervene and stop the fight.

The gunman fired three times, hitting the mother and her son in their legs. Both are in stable condition.
