Murder suspect turns himself in after shooting 21-year-old, Garland police say

Updated at 9:59 p.m. Sunday: Revised to include information about an arrest.
Police have charged a man with murder after a 21-year-old was found fatally shot in a Garland apartment Saturday afternoon.
Jesus Mendoza, 22, turned himself in to Garland police Sunday night in connection with the death of Jaylan Devon Hadnot.
Officers were called about 3:30 p.m. to the 4600 block of Saturn Road near Interstate 635 after witnesses directed them to an apartment. Officers found Hadnot inside with a gunshot wound.
Hadnot died at a hospital, Garland police Lt. Pedro Barineau said.
Detectives learned that a group of people, including Mendoza, left the apartment where Hadnot was found shortly after people nearby heard gunshots.
Police later determined Mendoza shot Hadnot and got a warrant for his arrest.
Bail has not been set for Mendoza, who is being held in the Garland Detention Center, police said.
An investigation is still ongoing, police said.
