Number Of US Measles Cases Reaches 1,022 In Worst Outbreak Since 1992 – CDC

The United States recorded 41 new cases of measles last week in what has become the worst outbreak of the disease since 1992, the Centers for Control and Disease Prevention (CDC) said in a report on Monday

NEW YORK (UrduPoint News / Sputnik – ) The United States recorded 41 new cases of measles last week in what has become the worst outbreak of the disease since 1992, the Centers for Control and Disease Prevention (CDC) said in a report on Monday.

“This is an increase of 41 cases from the previous week. This is the greatest number of cases reported in the US since 1992 and since measles was declared eliminated in 2000,” the report said.

As of June 6, the total number of measles cases in the US in 2019 jumped to 1,022, or three times as many infections as reported in the previous year, the CDC said.

Measles has now spread to Virginia and Idaho, the CDC said, bring the total number of states affected to 28, the CDC said.

Infections have also been reported in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New Mexico, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Tennessee and Washington, according to the CDC.

New York, California, Pennsylvania and Washington are currently the states that CDC designated as having measles outbreaks, defined as three or more currently ongoing cases.

The agency projects that if the trend continues through the fall, the United States may lose its measles elimination status
