Pasadena Police Chief ‘outraged’ after man stabs pregnant wife to death while out on bond

The Pasadena police chief said Monday he was outraged about a recent case involving a man accused of fatally stabbing his pregnant wife about 20 times while out on bond.

In a YouTube video published Monday, Chief Josh Bruegger said the 22-year-old suspect, Alex Daniel Guajardo, was released from on bond about 18 hours before the deadly stabbing last Saturday

Bruegger said Guajardo admitted to stabbing his wife, Caitlynne Rose Guajardo, multiple times in the stomach because “he did not want another man raising his baby.” Guajardo was charged with capital murder the following day and remains in Harris County Jail without a bond, records show.

Court records show Guajardo was charged with assault July 31 and released from jail Aug. 1 on a personal bond, which means he didn’t have to post bail to secure his release. In that case, police said Guajardo had killed a cat and assaulted his wife at his home in the 1900 block of Southmore.

Guajardo also was released on a personal bond in May after he was charged with DWI and failure to stop and give information following a crash, records show.

“I am shocked. I am outraged, and I am saddened by these cases,” Bruegger said, tying Guajardo’s murder charge to Harris County’s recent bail reform settlement.

“The reform seems to have neglected the rights of crime victims and overall safety of the public,” he said in the video.

The stabbing was first reported to Pasadena police around 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Guajardo reportedly told the 911 dispatcher that he killed his wife and needed help, police said.

Police said they spoke to Guajardo at the home on Southmore and noticed blood on his pants. He reportedly confessed to killing his wife, who was four months pregnant, and told officers that her body was in the apartment.

She was found with about 20 stab wounds across her body, several of which were focused around her abdomen, police said. She was pronounced dead at a hospital several hours later.

He said he killed the woman over “marital issues,” according to police. His next court hearing is scheduled for Sept. 27 in the 263rd District Court.
